About our Service
The Women’s Health Clinic is an outpatient department where we aim to provide a high quality care for both Antenatal and Gynaecology Services.
Where to find us
The Women’s Health Clinic building is situated behind the Maternity Unit, close to the Tranwell Unit and is best accessed through Entrance C on Windy Nook Road and is closest to car park 2 on the parking map.
When coming through Entrance E, take the first left, to walk around the back of the maternity unit, then turn left to walk down the hill. The Women’s Health Clinic is the building on the right, which is sunken, below the path and is accessed by a set of steps directly in front of the front doors. There is wheelchair access to the building, by carrying on a little further down the hill, and turning right, and the wheelchair path runs alongside the building back to the front door.

The staff
There are a wide range of staff with diverse expertise, relating to the clinic you are attending. They include:
- Receptionists will take your details and book your appointments,
- Clinic staff – Sister in Charge, Health Care Assistants
- Nurse Practitioners who have specialist knowledge and have there own clinics.
- Midwives
- Sonographers who carries out ultrasound scans
- Consultants, Registrars and junior doctors.
You may not always see the same doctor as they move to other specialities during their training.
As this is a training area you may be asked if a medical, nursing or midwifery student can be present during your consultation. You can say no, if you prefer.
What will happen during my appointment?
Appointments usually include talking to the doctor, nurse or midwife so that you can both give and receive information about your individual problem. To assist with this we may need to carry out some tests including blood and urine tests.
You may also be asked to have a physical examination. Your privacy and dignity are very important to us. Some of our doctors are male however a female chaperone will stay with you. You can request to see a female doctor.
We always appreciate patient feedback about our Service; you can give this anonymously by filling in exit cards available from any member of staff.
