What To Expect
A letter appointment will be sent to your home with details of the appointment time, date and venue. If you cannot attend this date please contact us on the number on the letter to re-arrange.
You will attend the clinic with your child which will have 2 Nurses and at times Student Nurse’s present.
A height and weight measurement will be completed which we will plot on a special chart called a centile chart. Following this a small finger prick blood sample will be completed, this may need to be repeated depending on how easy the sample is to obtain. Your child may get upset during this but will settle soon after.
We will ask you questions regarding your child’s last vision and hearing tests so if you could bring that information that would be very helpful for us.
You will be sent a letter a few weeks later from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with the results and if any further investigation or changes to medications are required.
The screening will be completed once or twice a year depending on if your child requires medication for their thyroid.
