What To Expect
A letter appointment will be sent to your home with details of the appointment time, date and venue. Unfortunately you cannot change this appointment date due to timescales to ensure the injection is effective.
You will attend the clinic with your child which will have 2 or 3 Nurses and at times Student Nurse’s present. Someone with parental responsibility must attend to provide consent, unfortunately relatives cannot bring your child on your behalf unless they have parental responsibility. We will complete a set of observations including heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and oxygen saturations. You will be asked a few questions about your child’s current health and asked to sign a consent form. If we feel that your child is not well enough we will let you know and will unfortunately have to reschedule your appointment to when your child is well enough.
We will ask you to take a seat with your child on your knee, we will hold your child’s legs in place to administer the injection. If your child requires two injections these will be completed at the same time. Your child may be upset during this but will settle soon after.
The clinics run throughout the winter period, your child will require an injection each month for a maximum of 5 months.
As with most injections your child may suffer from some side effects information will be provided to you regarding this at your clinic appointment.
