About the international recruitment team
The aim of the international recruitment team is to facilitate the arrival of internationally trained nurses to the UK, ensure that they are housed and have everything they need to begin their work in the Trust.
This includes the provision of a bespoke training package which will ensure that they can pass their NMC mandated OSCE within the 12-week window from arrival in the UK.
To facilitate the timely recruitment of suitable nurses, we will be working with Yeovil NHS Trust, who already have a well-established and proven oversees recruitment department. They will shortlist and interview suitable candidates and add them to our supply line. Once the candidates have passed English tests, NMC CBT (Online portion of NMC competency testing) and have worked their notice period at their current employment, they will then travel to the UK and Gateshead part of the journey begins.

Accomodation
The Trust have secured accommodation in the centre of Newcastle for the internationally trained nurses.
OSCE test
As a team we have opted for a 3-week training package as this is in line with what other Trusts offer and represents the best balance of education but without any undue delay to the nurses passing their OSCE and entering the workforce as a NMC registrant.
To support the training for the OSCE, the International Recruitment team will be working closely with the Practice Development team. All required persons have undertaken an NMC accredited train the trainer course to ensure our internationally trained nurses receive the best preparation for their test.
Northumbria university has just opened an OSCE test centre and we have created close links with the university.
Onboarding and pastoral support
A comprehensive pastoral and onboarding package has been arranged and will support the internationally trained nurses from arrival. The team will pick the nurses up from the airport and help them settle in to their accommodation. The team will support with the on boarding process of opening bank accounts, collecting biometric passports and registering with GP.
A welcome pack will be provided and will include information on the local area such as places of worship, public transport, tourist spots and places to eat.
