About the service
The Gateshead Breast Screening Service is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It covers Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Durham and Chester-le-Street.
The Gateshead Breast Screening Service is part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
Breast screening is currently offered at 3-yearly intervals to women aged from 50 until their 71st birthday.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the UK with more than 55,000 cases diagnoses every year. It is important to find breast cancer early. We know that the sooner breast cancer is diagnosed, the better the outcome is likely to be for you.
If you are concerned about your breasts then you should contact your GP immediately. Do not wait for a breast screening appointment.
You will receive a letter when you are eligible for an appointment, you can then book a day and time that is suitable to you.
You can do this by contacting the screening service on 0191 445 2554
If you are unable to book a web appointment on this page, it is because there are currently no web appointment slots available. Please ring the screening service on 0191 445 2554 as they will be able to access more available appointment slots.
