Skin prick testing is commonly used to assess if people are allergic to different allergens such as pollen, animal fur and dust.
Do not take anti-histamine medication at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.
At your appointment different allergen solutions will be placed onto your forearm. A small needle will then be used to prick the skin so that a small amount of allergen solution enters the skin.
You will be asked to wait for 15-30 minutes in the clinic to observe for a reaction.
If symptoms such as wheezing, rash or dizziness occur within 24 hours of the test please contact your GP or local A&E Department, tell the staff you have had skin prick testing.
