Lucy McGrath
Hi, I’m Lucy! I’m running the GNR this year to prove to myself I am successfully becoming a healthier and happier person and trying to raise some money whilst doing so. After some health difficulties over the last few years, I wanted to find a way to improve my mental health as well as my fitness, and running has been the perfect outlet for this. I think it’s so important to advocate for your own mental health, especially when working in the NHS.
I’m hoping to raise some money for the amazing respiratory team that I have worked within since 2017 and will hopefully encourage some colleagues to start running along the way – if I can do it, anyone can!!
Thank you, Lucy!

Lilly Alderson
I am running the Great North Run this year in aid of the QE Hospital in Gateshead. I have chosen to raise money for this charity, as since starting my apprenticeship within Gateshead Health Foundation Trust I have seen some of the amazing things charitable funds have contributed to and the positive impact this has had on patients, their families, and staff. I’ve put on the trainers and the training has started!
I’m doing Gateshead Parkrun each Saturday as part of my training programme – it’s a great way to meet new people and keep me motivated. I am so close to completing my 50th run! I won’t get the fastest time but hope to finish well and raise some money whilst having some fun. If you can, please show your support by making a donation and contributing to a great cause!
Thank you, Lilly Alderson.

Jayne and Victoria have both decided to take on the challenge this year of running the Great North Run to raise money and the profile of Hospice at Home.
This is an end of life service that supports patients who wish to die at home, not only supporting them but also their families during this very traumatic time.
As you can imagine this is an extremely challenging role however, very rewarding and we both feel utterly privileged to be welcomed into their home at such a difficult time.
We all feel very passionate in supporting patients and helping them to fulfil their final wishes of dying at home surrounded by their family, hence the reason why we want to raise money as well as promoting our fabulous service. Please show your support by making a donation, no amount is too small as every penny counts.

Maia and Shannon
We are raising funds to support Ward 8 Cardiology at Gateshead NHS Trust. By running for our Cardiology Ward, we are able to raise awareness of the importance of looking after your heart and raise funds to improve the patient journey while on the ward.
Running for our Cardiology Ward is a powerful way to support and raise awareness of the vital services provided by our dedicated team. By taking on this challenge, we are not only pushing our limits but also shining a light on the importance of heart health.
Our aim is to inspire others to take care of their heart and provide positive patient experience during their stay. Every step taken during the Great North Run will bring attention to the life saving care we provide. The money raised will make a difference in supporting patients and families throughout their journey on ward 8.
If you wish to donate we have created a Just Giving Page or you can donate via cash by filling out a donation form provided and handing it back to Maia or Shannon who are Staff Nurses on Ward 8.
Thank you very much for supporting us and we will see you at the finish line!
