Temporary access changes as work continues on new maternity theatre (Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October)

Over the weekend of Friday 16 October to Sunday 18 October, work on our new maternity theatre will reach a major milestone the new modular theatre units are lifted into place on site.

To ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, and staff while heavy lifting equipment is in use, temporary road and footpath closures will be in place near the Maternity building.

What you need to know if you are visiting us

  • Dates and times: The closures will be in place from 8:00am on Friday 16 October through to Sunday 18 October night. Routes will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Affected areas: The road and footpaths running between the Maternity building and Pathology, passing the Bowel Screening Hub, will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians. The map below shows the area that will be closed.
  • Accessing maternity: Safe access to the Maternity building will be fully maintained at all times throughout the weekend. If you are attending the unit, clear signage and alternative pedestrian routes will guide you safely to the entrance.
  • Emergency access: Dedicated access routes for emergency vehicles remain in place at all times.

Safety and what to expect

The lifting area will be fully secured with safety barriers and monitored by trained staff to ensure public safety.

While we do not expect excessive noise, visitors to this area of the hospital site may notice some operational noise as we set up the crane, vehicle movements and reversing alarms.

We have scheduled this essential work over the weekend to minimise disruption to our services and patient appointments.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to invest in improving our hospital facilities.
