It is advisable to follow these specific instructions to ensure safety whilst wearing a plaster cast:
- Please ensure your cast remains dry at all times. We recommend limbo waterproof cast covers and have attached an information leaflet about this product.
- Please keep the cast elevated at all times.
- For lower limb injuries this must be higher than the hip and on level with the heart, with the heel free at all times.
- For upper limb injuries, the limb must be kept higher than the heart with regular shoulder movements and finger movements where possible.
- Do not insert anything inside the cast. If you think you have something inside your cast you must contact the plaster room as this may need removed.
- Refrain from wearing jewellery on the affected limb.
Please contact the plaster room if your plaster becomes too tight due to swelling or if you have prolonged pins and needles.

- If you are told to non weight bear this means you should keep your foot off the ground and put no weight through your boot.
- If you are told to partially weight bear this means you can put your foot on the ground and walk about using crutches as instructed.
- You may take the boot off for bed unless told otherwise by your doctor.
