Home Visiting by Physiotherapy Assistants

While your child is at home and not yet old enough to access a nursery placement, we will where possible provide additional help at home for parents of children known to physiotherapy. This will help your child achieve some areas of their development.

The physiotherapist involved with your child will assess where any extra input may be helpful. They will discuss this with you. On agreement, a joint visit will be made with one of the children’s physiotherapy assistants and a programme of advice, activities and exercises will be written.

They will work with you and your child on the activities in the programme, assessed by your physiotherapist as appropriate for your child’s needs. They will support you with the activities and positions you are carrying out daily with your child.

The input of the children’s physiotherapy assistant will be time limited to approximately 4 months, with reviews of progress by your physiotherapist.

  • Your physiotherapist will discuss the possibility of this service being available to your child.
  • A joint visit will be organised to introduce you and your child to the physiotherapy assistant who will be visiting you. This will initially be at home but may also include sessions at Chowdene Children’s Centre.
  • The physiotherapy assistant will organise home visits with you directly and give you a contact telephone number.
  • If you are unable to keep any appointment you must ring Chowdene Children’s Centre and inform the physiotherapy assistant to cancel the appointment.
  • Joint visits with the physiotherapists will be organised at regular intervals, for progress reviews and to update, where needed, any agreed advice and activities.
  • Frequency of visits will be organised according to need and will become less often as your child improves.
  • This service will be reviewed/withdrawn if more than two consecutive failed home visits are recorded.
  • This support is in addition to (not instead of) the time spent by parents following the specific programme of activities as assessed by your physiotherapist.
  • Once your child attends nursery the assistants support will cease. They may if required, visit your child in the nursery at first, until your child’s key support worker is competent and confident to carry out these activities on your behalf.

We are working hard to provide you with the best possible service. We can use all your comments, suggestions and compliments to help us.
