Norovirus (the diarrhoea and vomiting bug) is circulating in the community and has affected a number of our wards. Norovirus spreads very easily through hands, surfaces and shared spaces, so we are taking steps to limit infection and keep everyone safe.
Norovirus is a common winter virus that causes sickness and diarrhoea. Symptoms can include:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Stomach cramps
- Feeling unwell
What this means for visitors:
- Please do not visit if you have had symptoms in the last 48 hours.
- Visiting may be restricted in affected wards—please check with the nurse in charge.
- Wash your hands using soap and water when entering and leaving any ward or department.
- Avoid using patient toilets and only use designated visitor facilities.
How you can help:
- Encourage friends and family to wash their hands regularly.
- Keep visits short where possible and avoid sitting on patient beds.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose of it responsibly.
- Contact the ward before travelling if you are unsure whether you should visit.
Thank you for helping us protect vulnerable patients and reduce the spread of norovirus.
