Andy’s career started in 1985 when he graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he completed his medical training. He then went on to pursue postgraduate training rotations in the Northern Region, specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology.

He joined the Trust in 1995 as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and has provided care to countless patients. In 2016, he took on the role of Medical Director and has played a pivotal role in our organisation throughout his career, including more recently, navigating the Trust through the covid pandemic and the opening of a new maternity theatre. He has provided the highest levels of care to our patients and always advocates for staff health and wellbeing.

“I’ve very much enjoyed my 29 years serving Gateshead including just over 7 years as Medical Director. I’ve worked with some amazing people and seen huge changes and improvements during that time. I could not be prouder of everyone I have worked with and the care they provide for our patients Gateshead really does have a special family feel and I will have lots of wonderful memories to look back on.
