Local MP thanks Gateshead Health staff on 75 NHS Anniversary

Blaydon MP Liz Twist hosted a celebratory event in Blaydon UTC to thank staff for all the dedicated work they carry out.

Blaydon MP Liz Twist hosted a celebratory event in Blaydon Leisure and Primary Care Cantre to thank the staff for all the dedicated work they carry out.

As the NHS celebrates its 75th anniversary, Liz Twist, local councillors, Unison members and others across the community wanted to thank the staff at the centre for all they continue to do for residents across the region. Staff from Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust were treated to cake to help them through their working day.

Liz was joined by key Unison members, such as Maria Alberts who is the branch secretary of Unison Gateshead and helps to represent staff and support all our nurses and doctors.

Andrew Rayner, Deputy Chief Nurse at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust said: “Working for the NHS can be very busy and tiring, but seeing the difference that we make to people’s lives is it’s own reward.”

“I’m really proud of the work that all of colleagues at Gateshead Health do, so it’s fantastic that the MP and so many of our local councilors and residents turned up today to express their gratitude. “

Liz Twist MP for Blaydon said: “The NHS has been there for me all my life and I am forever grateful to the staff for the work they do across the country. Thanking them for their ongoing efforts is the least they deserve.”

Maria Alberts, Staff Side Chair, Unison Gateshead Health Branch said: “NHS staff have had an incredibly difficult few years, through the pandemic, I’m pleased to know that our local Member of Parliament is supporting staff. As the NHS turns 75, I am proud to work with Unison and MPs like Liz to help improve the lives of everyone working in our health service.”

Liz has a strong track record of working in Parliament to strengthen our healthcare system including chairing an All Party Political Groups on rare diseases and suicide and mental health prevention. She has also worked closely with the local NHS trust and local authorities to raise essential matters relating to our regional health services.
