Charity gig rocks for the Chemo unit

Katy Quinn and her cousin Kirsty hosted a night to remember in support of the Chemo Day Unit, raising £2,375. The charity event was held on behalf of Katy’s dad, Jim Egan, who sadly passed away in 2018.

The night marked the fifth anniversary of Jim’s tragic passing and was done to celebrate him fittingly by doing something he loved, helping others. Jim was a P.E teacher for 42 years at St Marys and St Cuthbert’s High School where he loved teaching kids the passion for sports. Jim loved all sports but especially loved football and was a diehard Newcastle United fan.

Jim was treated for cancer at the Chemo Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. Katy and her family were very thankful for the treatment Jim received and thought so highly of the chemo nurses and all they did for him. Overall the team were deemed amazing and Katy wanted to give her thanks by organising another charity night.

The charity event featured an indie rock band called Dog in a Box who created a great atmosphere for the evening, a raffle that was a roaring success and some party games during the night to make sure the laughter and smiles never wavered.

Katy said “We had a fantastic charity night to raise money for the amazing chemo unit on behalf of our amazing dad Jim Egan who we sadly lost in 2018. He always had a smile on his face and a very infectious laugh which made a bad day so much better. I’m happy that the smiles were continued in his memory as everyone had a great evening full of laughter. I want to thank the amazing Dog in a Box who had the atmosphere on a constant high and a shout out to the outstanding chemo unit team for the care they provided my dad.”

We are so lucky to have so many amazing fundraisers like Katy and Kirsty who have organised their own charity night to raise funds for Gateshead Health Charity. Take a look at our other stories just like this in our news section about how others have fundraised for our charity.
