High quality of care of patients and service users is Gateshead Health’s top priority in recent staff survey

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust welcomes results from the 2023 NHS Staff Survey. The majority of the people who work at Gateshead Health think that patient care is the number one priority for our organisation.

This year Gateshead Health received a staff response rate above the average rate of 46%. Gateshead Health has continued to score better than the national average in areas such as:

  • care of patients/service users is organisation’s top priority
  • recommending the Trust as a place to work
  • happy with the standard of care a friend/relative would be provided by the organisation.
  • health, well-being and safety at work

The results of the annual staff survey show that 8 out of 10 staff have said that care of patients/service users is the organisation’s top priority and 73% believe the organisation acts upon concerns raised by patients and service users.

The Trust continues to be recommended by its staff as a great place to work following the 2023 staff survey – and 75% of the workforce would be happy with the standard of care a friend/relative would be provided by the organisation maintaining a high endorsement from staff.

Staff have praised Gateshead Health for helping those with a disability carry out their work, with 83% of respondents agreeing that the Trust has made reasonable adjustments for staff to allow them to work comfortably.

Three quarters of staff said, they would be happy for a friend or relative to receive care at Gateshead Health. This continues to be a positive result, which shows staff are happy with the standard of care we provide.

Recommending Gateshead Health as a place to work remains positive with 68% of the workforce saying they would; this is 8% higher than the organisational average. The organisation was also above average relating to colleagues feeling safe to speak up about any concerns at work with 67% of respondents feeling able to.

The NHS Staff Survey is an annual survey, completed by all NHS trusts in England. It provides a detailed insight into how staff feel about their wellbeing, levels of engagement and motivation, equality, diversity and inclusion, safety and quality of care.
