Gateshead Health setting the gold standard in recording data

We are excited to announce that Gateshead Health has received the Gold National Joint Registry (NJR) Quality Data Provider Award for 2024.

The ‘NJR Quality Data Provider’ certificate scheme was introduced to offer hospitals a blueprint for reaching high-quality standards relating to patient safety and to reward those who have met registry targets. The scheme recognises hospitals that excel in promoting patient safety standards through their compliance with the mandatory NJR data submission quality audit.

The NJR collects data on hip, knee, ankle, elbow, and shoulder joint replacement surgery and monitors the performance of joint replacement implants. The registry collects high quality orthopaedic data to provide evidence to support patient safety, standards in quality of care, and overall value in joint replacement surgery.

To achieve the gold award, hospitals must meet best practice targets, enhance engagement and awareness regarding the importance of quality data collection, and have a shared understanding that accurate data helps the NJR to improve patient outcomes. As a Trust, we are required to submit details of our eligible operations to the National Joint Registry (NJR). Our surgeons complete a form with relevant data, which is then input into the NJR by our Implant Coordinators who play a crucial role in updating the data regularly.

We are really proud that we are providing good information and as a Trust, it shows that we care about the data and are working to a high standard. I would like to thank the implant co-ordinators, Vicki Milburn and Lindsey O’Hagan, our orthopaedic surgeons and orthopaedic theatre teams for all their hard work in ensuring our data is accurate and up to date.

Congratulations to everyone involved in keeping our information accurate and to a high standard to support patient safety.
