Gateshead Health Charity swings into action with a golf tournament

The 2nd annual Gateshead Health Charity Grand Slam Golfing Event raised vital funds for patients at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.

“Thank you to everyone who took part in our Charity Grand Slam Golf Event 2024,” said Clare Drummond, Charity Manager. “It has been a fantastic day seeing some of our players from last year, along with new players taking part in raising much-needed funds to support our patients here in Gateshead.”

Despite blustery winds, six teams battled it out on the scenic 18-hole course at Ravensworth Golf Club, a major supporter of the event. The competition was fierce, with a Texas Scramble format and special challenges along the way.

Ultimately, “The Cinderella Story” team, playing on behalf of the Orthopaedics and Special Care Baby Funds, emerged victorious with an impressive score of 59.56 points! They were presented with the coveted Radio Tyneside 2024 Trophy, donated by the charity’s corporate partner, Radio Tyneside.

“I am delighted once again to be able to support Gateshead Health Charity with their Grand Slam Golf Event and present the Radio Tyneside Golf Grand Slam 2024 trophy to the worthy winners, The Cinderella Story,” said Dave Nicholson OBE, Chairman of Radio Tyneside.

There were also runner-up prizes and special awards for “nearest to the pin,” “nearest to the pin in 2,” and “longest drive.”

“The day was great,” said Noel Renton, Team Captain of “FORE Hour Wait,” last year’s winners who came in second place. “It was an excellent way to have a break from the busy pressures of the NHS and spend time having fun with colleagues. I would definitely recommend it to other people, although ‘FORE Hour Wait’ will be making a comeback to win the 2025 trophy!”

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of sponsors Ravensworth Golf Club, Radio Tyneside, Heworth Golf Club, Chester Le Street Golf Club, and Birtley Golf Club.
