Gateshead Health celebrates diversity at Newcastle Pride

On Saturday 19 July, members of Gateshead Health’s LGBTQ+ Staff Network took to the streets of Newcastle to proudly join the annual Northern Pride march. Despite the rain, the vibrant celebration of diversity and inclusion brought together hundreds of people, all marching in unity to celebrate love, visibility and equality.

Our staff network was proud to represent the Trust at this important event, walking side by side with colleagues, allies and other NHS organisations. Being part of the march not only offered a chance to show support for the LGBTQ+ community, but also to reaffirm our commitment to making Gateshead Health an inclusive, safe and welcoming place for everyone.

LGBTQ+ Staff Network Chair, Mike Wilkinson, said, “Marching at Pride was a powerful reminder that representation matters and that we stand together as one community, across our Trust.”

At the event, we also had our mobile cervical screening bus available from 9:00am to 5:00pm, making health support more accessible for everyone. The team took 11 samples on the day which was great considering the rainy weather.

By taking part in events like Northern Pride, we demonstrate that inclusion is more than just a statement, it’s something we actively live and celebrate. It’s also a reminder that visibility matters and that every individual should feel proud to be themselves at work.

Thank you to everyone who showed their support, whether at the event or cheering from afar and to our staff network for continuing to lead with pride.
