Easter joy at Gateshead Health

In celebration of Easter, our supporters have planned a series of events, aimed at raising funds for Gateshead Health Charity and various departments dedicated to delivering high-quality care to our patients.

These egg-citing activities not only brought together staff and the community in the spirit of giving but also highlighted the importance of collaboration in enhancing patient care.

The Garden of Hope event for patients, their families, friends, and staff gathered to celebrate Easter. Susie Chrystal, a Specialist Nurse in Critical Care Rehabilitation, shared her enthusiasm for the event: “It was great to see so many people enjoying the garden at the recent Easter event. Ex-patients and relatives from critical care who attend the local peer support group ICU steps Gateshead gathered with current patients, relatives and staff to enjoy some therapeutic time outside. There were plenty of cream scones to go around. Claire Brown, relative of a patient on the Jubilee wing won the guess the egg competition guessing 90 when there were 92 eggs in the jar! Inpatient Admiral Nurse, Chris Fawcett made beautiful jam and chocolates to sell to raise funds for the garden and Inpatient Admiral Nurse Julia Nevin provided Easter crafts for all. The gardeners were able to appreciate the results of their efforts to make the courtyard into such a great place for many to enjoy.”

In another heartwarming event, St Bede’s raised an impressive £708.66 during their Easter event on Saturday 5 April. The day was filled with laughter, delicious teas, cakes, raffles, and games, creating a fantastic atmosphere that strengthened community ties.

Further spreading joy this Easter, Leanne O’Hagan, Stephen Islam, and the dedicated staff from the Royal Mail Tyneside Mail Centre, along with The Communication Workers Union, generously donated nearly a hundred Easter eggs for the children in the unit. This thoughtful gesture not only brought smiles to patients but also reinforced the bond between Gateshead Health and the local community.

Molly Johnson and Linda Kendal also kindly delivered an amazing Easter egg donation to the children’s day unit to be shared within all the children’s services over Easter. The donation was very kindly donated from the amazing staff at Hales Home Care to spread Easter cheer.
