Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Dr Sean Fenwick as Acting Chief Executive, following the secondment of Trudie Davies to North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC).
Trudie began her secondment in late July, stepping in to support NCIC while their Chief Executive, Lyn Simpson, provides interim leadership at the Humber Health Partnership.
Dr Sean Fenwick will lead Gateshead Health on an interim basis from 18 August, working closely with the Trust Board and executive team.
He joins us on secondment from South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, where he is currently the Director of Operations and has been the Deputy Chief Executive. Sean has worked in the NHS for over 30 years, combining a clinical background as a consultant nephrologist with senior executive roles across operations, governance and clinical transformation.

Chair of Gateshead Health, Alison Marshall, said: “We wanted to make sure there was clear leadership in place during this period and I’m pleased we’ve been able to confirm Sean’s appointment so quickly. He brings not only senior operational and system experience but also a strong clinical background. I know he’ll work closely with colleagues and partners in the months ahead.”
Dr Sean Fenwick, Acting Chief Executive, added:
It’s an honour to take on this role and to contribute to a Trust whose values and priorities I share. Having spent my career in the North East, I’ve always respected the work taking place at Gateshead Health.
I’m looking forward to working with colleagues, partners and the Board to support the work already underway. I know how much people care about what they do, and I’ll do everything I can to support that
Trudie Davies remains the substantive Chief Executive at Gateshead Health and, during her secondment, will continue to contribute to the Great North Healthcare Alliance.
