Vicky Jobson, Matron in the Medical Business Unit gives an insight into working at Gateshead Health as we continue to celebrate International Nurses Day:
I proudly serve as the Matron in the Medical Business Unit. With over 12 years of experience as a nurse, I provide strong leadership to the nursing teams, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care for our patients. Creating a positive practice environment for staff and patients is a top priority for me, especially as this hospital is where my family and friends would seek care if they ever became unwell. As a Matron team, we are unwavering in our commitment to providing high-quality, safe care and ensuring that our teams have the resources to do so effectively.
Every day in my role is dynamic, and I begin by reviewing emails and staffing levels. I actively participate in the Medical Business Unit Team Huddle in the morning and then visit the ward areas to support staff, meet patients and their families, or attend the ward rounds.
Throughout the day, I engage in various meetings to drive improvements in the quality of care for patients and shape our services to benefit our patients and support the Trust’s strategy aims.
The most rewarding aspect of my role is undoubtedly the people. With over 18 years of experience at QE Gateshead, I have witnessed our teams consistently go above and beyond for our patients. The exceptional team spirit and camaraderie amongst our staff are truly unmatched. Each day, our teams unite to ensure that our patients and their families receive the best possible care.
As we continue to celebrate International Nurses Day, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all our nursing teams who continue to deliver safe, compassionate, and effective care to our patients.
