What better way to celebrate your relationship than to win a luxury stay at the very place where you proposed to your fiancée? That’s exactly what happened to Jamie Husband, the lucky winner of the Gateshead Health Charity’s raffle. He and his fiancée, Jade, are now able to revisit The Gables glamping site in a very special way.

Jamie’s winning ticket was randomly chosen from over 400 entries, raising an impressive £2,035 for the St Bede’s Unit, an end of life care service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead. The prize was a luxurious weekend stay at the award-winning site, including breakfast, afternoon tea, and spa treatments.
For Jamie, the win was more than just a holiday. “We were over the moon to find out we had won a two-night stay at The Gables, a place that holds a special place in our hearts, as it’s where we got engaged back in 2020!
“Being able to return and see all the wonderful new developments feels really special, and even better knowing we contributed to an amazing £2,035 being raised for such a great cause.”
To show his appreciation, Jamie even donated an additional £50, further supporting the vital work of the St Bede’s Unit.

Ward Manager Keely Taylor expressed her delight, “We are thrilled that Jamie won our raffle. His story is truly heart-warming, and we couldn’t imagine a more deserving winner.”
“A huge thank you to Jamie for his additional donation, and to everyone who purchased a ticket. The money raised will make a real difference not only to the patients we care for but also to their families and friends during such a difficult time.”
Clare Drummond, Charity Manager, echoed the sentiment. “Huge congratulations to Jamie on winning this amazing prize. It’s so lovely that Jamie and his fiancée can return to a place filled with such cherished memories. Thank you to everyone who entered the raffle. Your generosity enables Gateshead Health Charity to go above and beyond in supporting people across our Trust every single day.”
Owner of The Gables, Sue Brierley donated the wonderful prize in memory of her sister, Karen who was cared for at the St Bede’s unit in the final days of her life.

Sue said. “We are so pleased that we managed to raise so much money for St Bede’s unit in memory of our beloved Karen. All the staff were fantastic and did an incredible job each and every day under such difficult circumstances. They all looked after our beautiful Karen with such dignity and professionalism and we wanted to do something in return to show our appreciation for the care she received in her final days.
“We miss her so much our beloved Karen, a wonderful, talented, kind lady, every day and hope the funds raised can purchase much needed facilities that can help and provide comfort for other families using the unit whilst their loved ones are being cared for in St Bede’s”.

The successful raffle combined traditional paper tickets with online e-tickets for the first time, marking a milestone for the charity. The draw took place on 8 August 2025 at the St Bede’s Unit.
