Pat has supported the charity by hosting various fundraisers. These range from selling crafts to organising Christmas Fayres. Pat has also completed a sponsored personal mobility challenge alongside hosting prize draws to win a break in historic Northumberland. Pat’s hard work for Gateshead Health Charity has supported multiple units with the most recent being the Chemotherapy Day Unit.

Pat said, “I chose to support Gateshead Health Charity as I wanted to return the support I have received. I have had multiple treatments at the QE Hospital throughout my journey with cancer and the care has been outstanding. Gateshead Health Trust supports the local community with their health and care needs. To thank the NHS I will continue to raise money for Gateshead Health Charity to support the patient experience here in Gateshead”.

Clare Drummond, Manager of Gateshead Health Charity, said, “We want to say a huge thank you to Pat for all the work she has done to support Gateshead Health Charity over the years. She has been absolutely incredible considering the challenges she has faced whilst continuously fundraising. We will use the money Pat has donated to enhance the patient experience here in Gateshead and improve the healthcare settings for all”.

Pat was born in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1948, the same year as the NHS began. Read more about Pat and her family’s journey through the QE Hospital. During her childhood Pat and her parents relied on the QE Hospital due to Pat’s heart condition. For a long time, Pat’s mother fundraised in the corridors of the QE hospital. She often sold knitting toys that she made in support of charities. Pat learned from her mother about fund raising to help others and support the local community.

Despite her ongoing treatment, Pat is planning even more fundraising events for 2024. Be sure to keep an eye on our socials for more updates.
