Importance of Bowel Preparation

To prepare for your colonoscopy you need to take bowel preparation which cleans your bowel. It is very important to follow the instructions you have been given exactly as the success of your colonoscopy depends on your bowel being as clean as possible.

A clean bowel will allow for a clear view of the inside of your bowel which is important for both accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Any changes on the inside of your bowel may be tiny so even the smallest amount of faeces (poo) could potentially hide something important.

If the bowel is not empty and clean enough your colonoscopy may have to be cancelled or repeated again at another time and date.

Expect to go to the toilet 12-15 times a day during the bowel preparation period.
