Gateshead Health Charity brought the community together in a Remembrance Service, named Light Up A Life on 28 November 2024. Held outside the main entrance of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the event featured readings by the Trust Chaplains and performances by the Trust Choir, along with George Clarke who switched on the lights. Families, staff, and local residents gathered to honour and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed, away.
The atmosphere was one of reflection as attendees gathered to honour those they hold dear. A memorial video, featuring the names and photographs of loved ones, served as a tribute to honour those who had bought a memory star from the charity. These stars, sold to raise money for the Gateshead Health Charity, carried the names of loved ones and personal messages from their families and friends.
The highlight of the evening was the switching on of the Christmas tree lights, a symbolic moment that brought warmth and joy to all present. Renowned architect and television presenter George Clarke performed the switch-on, adding a special touch to the occasion. . The tree, surrounded by remembrance stars, shone brightly as a beacon of love and unity.
The event also served as an opportunity to thank donors who contributed stars, lights, photographs, and refreshments. Their generosity not only honoured their loved ones but also supported the hospital charity, extending the impact to the wider community. During the service the Trust Choir performed a series of songs and Christmas Carols, providing the entertainment for the evening.
