Exciting improvements: Upgrading equipment in theatre 8

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust’s Division of Surgery, Women’s Health, and Children is pleased to share the news that following a successful capital bid in 2024/25, the team has upgraded one of our flagship laparoscopic theatres.

Theatres 7 and 8 are now fully equipped with Stryker equipment. This will improve the efficiency of staff working across both theatre environments. It will also allow seamless sharing of resources and technical support.

Mr. Barry Dent, Surgeon in theatre 8, comments on the upgrade:

The quality of the screens and the ease of use allows complex laparoscopic surgery to be performed more efficiently and should, in turn, ensure excellent outcomes for patients

Christine Ang, Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist shares her excitement for the new theatre:

The new theatre set up has the latest technology and is much more ergonomic, which will benefit both patients and staff

Our patients greatly benefit from laparoscopic surgery, as it is minimally invasive and typically results in a shorter length of hospital stays, ultimately leading to an improved overall experience during their time with us.

Well done to the whole team for supporting the upgrade.
